Welcome to the Clwyd Royal Welsh website

Clwyd is the host County for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society this year. The host County system means that every 13 years we have the privilege of being able to 'host' the Royal Welsh Show.

The County is currently conducting a big fundraising drive to raise money towards building a new Food Hall at the showground.

Fundraising is an integral part of the host County system, but there is another very important aspect to the year, that is, to bring the County together so that we can all enjoy the experience of being the host County for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society in 2008!

The President for 2008 is Trebor Edwards.

Trebor Edwards Biography

Clwyd Royal Welsh

Trebor Edwards of Pen y Bryniau, Betws Gwerfyl Goch, near Corwen has been elected President of The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society for 2008.

He is known as one of the best cattlemen of his generation in Wales. Trebor has successfully exhibited cattle at many of the UK’s leading shows including the Royal Welsh, where he won Best Heifer with Welsh Queen in 2003, and the Winter Fair where he won the Supreme Championship in 2000.

On the wider stage he is known for his rich tenor voice and he has sung for audiences around the world. He is also a well-known TV personality in Wales and hosted his own television programme on HTV.

Originally a dairy farmer he switched to beef and sheep production in the 1970s so that he could devote more time to his singing. He has sung for Welsh Societies abroad and also entertained on cruise ships.

As a tenor he has won numerous competitions in a career that began alongside his father, grandfather, and three sisters. He has made many recordings including five gold records with sales in excess of 100,000 as well as producing nine CDs.

He and his wife, Ann, have four children, Gwyn, Erfyl, Catherine and Rose and all are involved in agriculture. Trebor is a school governor, a member of the community council and local chapel.

“As a family we have been involved with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society for many years. The Royal Welsh Show is always a highlight in our calendar” said Trebor “To be asked to be President is a great honour and privilege and I look forward to working with the appeal committees set up across the Clwyd area to raise money towards building a new food hall at the Showground”

2008 LADY AMBASSADOR

Miss Gwen Davies, Trelan Ffarm, Flintshire

It is a great honour to have been selected to represent the county as RWAS Lady Ambassador during our feature county in 2008. The Royal Welsh continues to go from strength to strength and I am looking forward to a busy year representing the society and the county during our fundraising events.

Having developed a keen interest in agriculture and the countryside during my upbringing in the beautiful Clwydian Range, I studied for my degree at Harper Adams. Having worked for the NFU for the past two and a half years on policy issues, I am currently the Business Development Manager for North Wales. I work closely with local NFU group secretaries to recruit and retain NFU members and promote the work that we do on a local, national and European level.

I can say whole heartedly that I am proud to represent the farming industry. We have in Wales, and throughout the UK, an industry which is meeting the highest production standards in terms of food safety, animal welfare and environmental benefits. Events such as the Royal Welsh present the perfect stage for us to showcase our produce and raise awareness of these production methods.

I am sure that whatever the weather we will have a successful feature county year and a fabulous summer show. I look forward to meeting you at one of the many events in 2008.
