THE ROYAL WELSH AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY (RWAS) FEATURE COUNTY LAUNCHES WEBSITE

A website aimed at boosting the fund raising appeal in Clwyd, the feature county at this year’s Royal Welsh Show has been launched by the 2008 RWAS president, Trebor Edwards.

The website www.clwydroyalwelsh.org contains information on the feature county, a list of forthcoming events, news updates and details of business sponsorship opportunities. The website is sponsored by Geraint and Jane Evans of ParcFarm Caravan Park, Llanarmon yn Iâl, Denbighshire.

“Every year a different Welsh county is featured at the show and Denbighshire, Wrexham, Conwy and Flintshire form the feature county area for 2008. Committees have been set up across the region and fundraising efforts are well underway,” said Trebor.

The funds we raise will go towards the building of a new Food Hall on the showground at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.

As the feature county, the region is being given an excellent opportunity to promote itself. Business sponsorship packages are available for companies in the four counties who wish to raise their profile at the Royal Welsh showground while also supporting local fundraising efforts. Membership of the RWAS taken up during 2008 will also be allocated to the Clwyd appeal fund.

Fundraising events to date have included a launch dinner at Kinmel Manor, Abergele a New Year’s Ball at The Beaufort Park Hotel, Mold, and a champagne reception in Denbigh. Forthcoming events include concerts, barbeques, coffee mornings, auctions of promises and a weekend extravaganza at the Rhug Estate, Corwen from 5th – 7th June.

“Fundraising is an integral part of the host county system, but there is another very important aspect to the year as well and that is to bring people together so that we can enjoy the experience of being the host county for the Royal Welsh show in 2008,” said Trebor.

“The efforts and enthusiasm of the fundraising committees and Young Farmers’ Clubs are to be commended. Activities across the region will now be posted on our new website and we would be delighted if people from communities across the four counties joined in to help raise as much money as possible. This is an exciting time for us all and it provides an excellent opportunity to showcase all that is great and good about our region at the Royal Welsh Show in July.”

Royal Welsh Chief Executive, David Walters, said the society was grateful for the support being given by the feature county. “The new website will play an important part in providing information and communicating with all those who are working to make the 2008 event another memorable Royal Welsh show. The initiative is an example of the dedication and enthusiasm shown by the local communities in working for the cause of the society.” Website address: www.clwydroyalwelsh.org.
